WELLINGTON NOTES.
(B.y Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, May 3. Wellington is badly in want of a now railway station. At present there are two stations, one at tiro cud of the old Manawatu Company’s lino (now belonging to the Government) and the other at the end of the East Coast line. The accommodation at. the latter is altogether inadequate and even insanitary. The people do not ask for an elaborate architectural structure such as has been built in Dunedin, but simply for adequate accommodation of inexpensive design. To-day a large and influential deputation discussed the matter with Mr. Myers, the new Minister for Hailways, but ho would give them no promise of the immediate construction of tho work. One reason he gave for the delay was tho large demands being made for new rolling stock and the reducing ijt the grades in order to give quicker train services. He admitted, however, that the matter would have to bo gone into in tho near future.
The Hon. Mr. Paul, of Dunedin, and Professor Mills (labour' organiser) met in Wellington to-day and discussed, matters connected with the work and policy of the United Labour Party. Professor MacMillan Brown, of Christchurch, left Wellington to-day on route for the Malay Archipelago, where he will make some anthropological studies of the inhabitants. He expects to bo ’away about six months.
