KOHURATAHI.
i (From Our Own Correspondent.) May 2.—A farewell social was tendered" to Mr. and Mrs. Coxbead, of Whangamoraona, last Wednesday. The function took place in the Kohuratahi Hall, and there was a large and re- ■ presentative gathering, despite the bad i state of the weather. During the even- ■ ing Mr. E. B. Roherton, on behalf of > the settlers of the district, presented i Mr. and Mrs. Coxbead with a silver ; . tea and coffee service. In. making the 1 presentation, Mr. Roherton spoke euloI gistieally of Mr. Coxhead’s many good 1 qualities as a settler and a man, and I while regretting his departure from the • district, wished Mr. and Mrs. Coxhead . many years of happiness wherever they . may settle. Mr. Coxhead feelingly , replied. lie thanked them for the , presents, and said he was sorry to ; leave the district where he had spent - so many years But ho had done his . share of pioneering, and did not think Whangamomona would see him again. Ho had come to the district expecting hard work, and he had not been disi appointed. Ho would now leave the work to be carried on by younger ' people. Dancing was then indulged in, , and kept up till a late hour. During ; the. evening songs wore sung by Misses ’ Wilson and Hill and Messrs. Cleland, * Fawkner, Bottomley and Natzke. The ' -ladies of the district were responsible 1 for the very tine supper, winch was i much appreciated.
