HUNTING.
NORTH TARANAKI HUNT CLUB MEET.
The North Taranaki Hunt Club met at Ngaere on Thursday, about twentyhorsemen going down from New Plymouth. Starting from Stratford, the sportsmen in tlieir pink, with tho hounds ahead, presented a gay sight to the numerous onlookers who had assembled to see the start. Mr. A. H.. Halcombe (master), Mr B. H. Chaney (deputy master) and Mr. A. Cutr (huntsman) led the way out to Mr. Sparkes’ property, at Ngaere, where the initial meet of the district was held. The country hunted over proved aif ideal one, but for the presence of some turnips and young grass fields, and the fences had been well sparred. The local residents were very enthusiastic, and the hunt was hospitably entertained to afternoon tea at Mr. Sparkes’ home, which attention was vastly appreciated. During the afternoon three good runs resulted m as many kills, the hares in all cases giving good sport. It lias been arranged to go down for another day’s sport on May 30. The following riders were present:—Messrs. A. H. Halcomb e on Tangamoaua, Cliff on Kin and Kura; H. Matthews on Ruft and Star Rose, Chaney on Drudgery, N. Bewley, J. Smith on Bluey, R. George on Harkaway, L. George on Red Hazard W. Cole on Darkey, J. Cole on Uruti. 6. Foreman on Barney, L. Jeunins on Laddie; Miss Street on Brownie, Mrs. Matthews on Malapin, Mr. G. Skelton on Patou, Messrs. A. J. Davey, H. Masters, P. Burgess, J. Braunigaa, E. Jackson, F, Gooch, Diamond, Sparkes, Beedie and Others. It has been arranged that the meet next Thursday will be held at Mr. Wheatley’s, Lepperton, instead oi at Mr. Sampson’s, as previously announced. •
