Share Quotations. —Waihi 33s 9d and 3Cs 3d, Junction 25s and 265, Talisman 40s to 455. THE BEET SUGAR CROP. (Received April 23, 11.35 a.m.) LONDON, April 22. Professor Licht estimates the production of beet sugar has decreased 1.638,000 tons, and the decrease for the season will be 1,796,600 tons. HIGH COMMISSIONER S REPORT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 22. Following is the High Commissioner's' cablegram, under date London, April 26: (quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices, on spot):— Mutton.—The market is quiet but firm. Heavy weights are difficult to sell at an average price of 3jd. A good demand continues for lighter carcases,which are selling at an average price of 4d, ewos SJd. Lamb.—The market is steady, with a good demand. Prices are firm at last rates quoted. Canterbury SRI) other than Canterbury oj|d. Beef.—Tho market remains firm, with a small supply, and Hie good demand j continues. New Zealand binds 4id, New Zealand fores 3Jd. Butter. The market is very depressed. Buyers of butter are holding back, expecting prices to go lower. A large decrease in the consumption is reported on account of the high prices and the labour troubles recently. The average price for the week for choicest Nefv Zealand butter was 114 s, Australian 112 s, Argentina 110 s, Danish 1265, Siberian 112 s.
Cheese. —Tho market is quiet and prices slightly weaker. Stocks are moderate. The average price for the week for finest New Zealanl cheese was 725.
Hemp.—Tire market is steady, but there is no demand. New Zealand good fair grade £2l 10s to £2l 15s, New Zealand fair grade £2O for any positions. For Manila the market is firmer. Fair current Manila on spot, per t<m, £2l 10s, forward shipment £2l 15s. The output from Manila for the week was 24,000 bales. ■Wool. Tho market is quiet but steady. Current quotations for Bradford tops: 86’s (low crossbreds) Is Id, 40’s (low crossbreds) is 1 id. 44’s (medium crossbreds) Is 3d, 50’s (halforeds) Is 5Jd, 56’s (quarterbredk) Is 7‘]d, 60’e (merinos) 2s Old. Hops.—The market is firm, with improved demand. There is no change in prices; English 13d, Californian 12d.
