MOA ROAD BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Moa Road Board was held in tiio Board’s offices at Inglewood on Saturday. Present: Messrs. H. Trimble (chairman), A. M. Anderson, A. Chard, E. A. Lawrence, J. Williams, K. T. Williams, J. Collingwood, and A. Corkill. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer (Mr. S. Orbell) reported that Messrs. T. and R. Parkin had linished their contract for the formation ami metalling of the Upland Road, thereby completing tho whole of tho work for ivhich the loan was raised. Mr. Tarry had also finished the concrete culvert on the Ratipiko Road in a very neat and workmanlike manner. He had arranged with the same contractor to fill, in the ends of the old culvert. A tracing of that portion of the Lepper Road proposed to be closed had been forwarded to the Public Works Department. CORRESPONDENCE. J. W. Harding wrote asking permission to put a telephone line, posts, and wires along the side of the Norfolk Road rrom his farm to tho Norfolk Road post office. Ho also asked that the drain in front of his farm be cleaned out, and that more metal should be supplied to join two paths together.—Resolved to allow Mr. Harding to erect the telephone line, but that the board had no money available to clean out the drain or put down the metal as requested. Tire secretary of the Egmonl National Park Board wrote acknowledging the receipt) of a letter from the board, and in reply stating that his board had no power to expend money on roads outside the radius line of the reserve.
The dork of the Tarnnaki County Council wrote asking tiro- board to take over tiro maintenance of the roadway of the Waiougona concrete bridge on the liurstlionso Road.—A greed to. Tho State Guaranteed Advances Office wrote in reference to payments to be applied for on the hoard’s account, and asking to be informed as to tho amount of cacti instalment, and the dates on which they would be required, and also stating that the instalments might be extended over any period not exceeding four years. The superintendent of tho New Zealand State Guaranteed Advances Office wrote that £l4B 4s bad been lodged in the bank on account of the Durham AVest loan account. Tho Under-Secretary of the Public Works Department wrote forwarding a copy of a notice published in the Now Zealand Gazette setting forth the particulars which should he furnished when applying for a license to construct electric 'lines for lighting and other purposes, in terms of the amended Act of 1911.’
FOREMEN’S REPORTS. Paul Stnchurski, division 1, reported that he had packed tho Lcpper Road South, blinded, and metalled it. and cleaned out tiro water tables. Iho metal had been spread on tho upland Road North. Four culverts were rotten, and required 9 inch pipes. Ine Lcpper Road bridge was in a dangerous condition, one end being rotten. The Egmont Road required patching, and the water tables cleaning out. the Windsor Road required to he formed for metalling. The- Dudley Road wanted patching and the water tables cleaned out. A complaint that he had pounded one settler’s cattle, and loft some others on the road was false. T. B. Kunfflock reported that Tarry had finished Ills Dudley Road contract for 100 yanks. Bishop had finished his Kaimata job of 250 yards. That the hoard should do something to hurry up Bishop to finish his job, for at the rate ho was going, he would he 12 months finishing it. Ho had taken six weeks in delivering 50 yards. The work required doing; Dudley Rond hiudiqg and clearing water tables, and hanking up metal. On the York Road, the formation on a bad lull would cost about £'B. Mr. Mohv who asked that this work should he done, would let him have his dray free of charge, and Mr. Bennett would work about three days free of charge.—Resolved that the work on the York Road as asked by Mr. Iloby ho done. Mr. Jones reported that ho and Mr. Laurence had inspected the bridges on Bedford Road, and Mr. Pntroy had been let the contract of replanking one, and patching the other with split slabs. Mr. Dmich had finished his contract on Durham Road West. The boulders were all broken and measured, and sent ip as 282 yards 23 feet, being 17 yards 4 feet short of contract of 300 yards of boulders. Weather permitting he would start on this work on Thursday. His work for tho past month had been taken up in patching, water tabling, and cleaning out ditches. Resolved that Mr. Laurence’s action re the redocking of the bridges be confirmed. W. Bennett reported that as there was sufficient metal on Kaimate Road South, it could be put on where the road was worn. L. Bishop had made no further progress with his metal contract. W. Julian had not made a start with his Ratapiko boulder contract. Rowan and Thomason had not made any further progress with their Mana Road boulder contract, they had delivered about 10 yards. His timo had been taken up on the Ratapiko water tables, Mana water tables, and filling ruts, Kaimata water tables, Knpara filling ruts and cleaning water tables, Kohete water tables, Mangoatoa water tables and filling ruts.—lt was resolved to forfeit all Bishop’s contracts for metalling, and that tho reletting of these contracts should ho loft in the hands of tho chairman. It was decided to give Foreman Stnchurski a month’s notice, and that fresh applications for the position be called for. It was resolved that it be an instruction to tho foremen to reconstruct the two culverts on the Rimutauteka Road. It was resolved that £2O be spent on metalling the Lcpper Hoad, north of Hursthouse Road. A DEPUTATION. Messrs. Mundt and Goppcrth waited on the board and asked that something should be done towards putting the top end of the Lcpper Road, near the creamery, in fit condition to enable the settlers on that part of the road to haul their milk to the creamery, which was their only source of livelihood. They asked the board to supply them with ]OD yards of metal and volunteered £5 towards the expense, and also suggested thict next year it would bo necessary to raise a special loan.—lt was decided to grant the settlers’ request to tho amount of 50 yards of metal. GENERAL. The monthly statement of accounts showed receipts £.134 17s Id, of which amount rates amounted to £129 0s Id,
with tho 10 per cent, penalty. Tire expenditure on the general account was £199 0s 7d, and £369 19s 9d on the loan account. There was a balance in hand on tlic loan account of £BSB 19s Id, and £2213 4s 4d on the general account. , , . , It was resolved that the chairman s name should lie placed on the Manganui W. E. Porcival was appointed the board’s assessor in • ease of objections being raised to the valuations now going on in the district.
