STABBED WITH HATPIN.
EXPRESS TRAIN INCIDENT. MELBOURNE, March 29. A left in the gangway of a corridor car on the Sydney express, caused tho conductor to come a nasty cropper. Ho looked for tho owner, and finding her, requested lior to remove it. She indignantly refused.
Chocking tho tickets, tho conductor found the basket still in the wrong place, and resting on i,L saw a hat about tho size of a parasol. Angrily ho lifted the basket in order to cany it to its proper place, its ! o clid so a hatpin foil out of tho i:at, auc in a rage ho picked it tip and jammed it through tho hat into tho basket. Instantly there rose a most frightful bond.
The conductor dropped the basket in a fright, tho lady who owned it burst into a series of screams, which alarmed all tho passengers within hearing. While the pandemonium still raged the conductor plucked up sufficient courage to see what was in the basket. Ho had visions of some horrible tragedy, but -when bo lifted of the lid out frisked a little collie pup, which frolicked about him with huge delight, and for its happy release forgave him the pinprick. But the puppy was taken to the dog-box, the basket was removed to the luggage receptacle, and tho bereaved lady was forced to bemoan her fate in • tho ladies’ carriage.
