ASSOCIATION MATCH. NEW PLYMOUTH v. HAWERA. This match was played in the Sports Ground on Monday, the local men, after a keenly contosrcd game, proving victorious by tiro goals to nil. The Rev. A. H. Colvile kicked off at 12.40, and the locals were soon swarming down on the Hawera goal, and it looked any odds on a .score; the bail, however, went over the bar. After the kick off the visitors "rushed the ball down to the home goal, and Shepherd made a good save from a long shot. After this the ball travelled up and down the ground without much advantage to either side,. Hazeltine showing up well, both in defence and attack. From a good piece of passing J. Wylie got the ball well within the circle, and shot the first goal for New Plymouth. From the kick off, the hall was again worked up to the Now Plymouth goal, and Shepherd was again called upon to' defend Iris citadel. After some play, in which neither side gained much advanta.ee, Hawera made determined attacks, and Lawrence nearly gave them a goal, but the ball, which he headed straight for the goal, went over the cross-bar. The corner kick went b-hind. After half-time the visitors played up well, and pressed the home team closely, but their attacks on the goal lacked the necessary finish, and wore ti.nrefore rosultlcss. About half-way through the second half the homo team pressed, and IV. Wylie netted a line goal. This proved' to he the last score of the match, but the visitors had decidedly the bettor of the second spell, although they did not succeed in notching a score. For Hawera Hazletine proved himself a tower of strength, and played the best gamb on the field. Stirrat, in goal, did -his work well, and Adams and Potier in the forwards showed up most prominently. For the home team fiwilhm and the two Wylies played good forward games, while Elliott was the pick of the back division, while Shepherd in goal did all that was required of him. Mr. J. Clark made an efficient referee.
