DEATH FROM BURNS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 10. Emily Jeflery, aged 19 mouths, who was severely scalded at her parents-’ residence last Monday, died in the hospital ths morning. A SETTLER’S DEATH. TE KUITJ, April 10. Early on Sunday morning John Farrell, a settler from the Rangitoto block, was discovered dead in Mr. Solomon’s yard at Otorohauga. An inquest was opened on Monday and adjourned for a week. The evidence showed that deceased got liquor upon the train on Saturday. Deceased and others had taken the liquor’ to Solomon’s and. consumed a considerable quantity, AVitnesses’ recollection of further events was hazy. A SHUNTING FATALITY’. INVERCARGILL, April 0. Thomas Dougherty, aged 50, a labourer, was, with a companion, walking across the railway yard at AA’yndham on Monday evening, when Dougherty was struck by a shunting engine and killed. WASHED OVERBOARD. INVERCARGILL, April 9. AVhile proceeding in a cutter from Bluff to Stewart Island on Monday evening, Eiriil Anderson, a single man, was washed overboard. A search was made, but proved fruitless. INQUEST AT DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN, April 9. At the inquest on the body of William Nosbit, who was killed last night as the result of being run over by a tram, the evidence showed that the injuries were very severe, including several fractures and a bad wound on the side of the abdomen. Death must have been instantaneous. The coroner returned a verdict that death was due to deceased having been run over by a tram while under the influence of liquor, no blame being attachable to anyone.
