PERSONAL.
Messrs. Newton King. R. Cook and the Rev. Mr. Oruickshank were among the passengers by the Rarawa from Onehunga this morning. A Sydney cablegram reports that Mr. Dacey, a member of the New South Wales Ministry, is seriously ill, and is undergoing treatment in a private hospital. Mr. A. Shuttleworth, who for many years has been chairman of the New Plymouth Gas Company, has tendered his resignation as chairman and director. Dr. F. W. Pennefather, who some years ago temporarily acted as judge of the Supreme Court during the absence of Mr. Justice Williams from Now Zealand, is at present visiting Dunedin. A requisition has .been presented to Mr. W. T. Jennings asking him to allow himself to be nominated for the Mayoralty. Mr. Jennings, in addressing the deputation which presented the requisition, expressed his regret that he could not accept nomination. Ho had made arrangements to visit Australia shortly on business which would necessitate his absence for a couple of months.
