SHIPPING DELAYS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —We have to-day received a cask of china, ex Arawa, which arrived in Wellington on December 28 last. The Union Steam Ship Company have thus succeeded in transporting this cask the entire distance between Wellington and New Plymouth, approximately 172 miles, in the remarkable time of a little over fourteen days. Compare this with the state-of things existing a few years ago, when it was not unusual for goods to arrive in from three to four days, and it will be seen that we are living in progressive times. It is evident that when the Union Company have been able to still further perfect their organisation and have fitted their boats to burn Taranaki oil fuel instead of coal, wo may look forward confidently to the time when it. will take only a few day-, or weeks longer to get goods from Wellington to New Plymouth than it now does to get them from London to Wellington.—l am, etc., BAKER AND CO.
