The Rarawa arrived from Onehunga this morning with 60 tons ol cargo, including 17 tons cement, 10 tons flour, 13 tons sugar, and 160 cases fruit. Thirty-four hundred feet timber were also landed. THE NEW STEAMER WAIMANA. ■ The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's now steamer Waimana, which is at present on her maiden voyage to Australia and Now Zealand, was built bv Messrs. Workman. Clarke, and Co., of Belfast. She is 494 ft. in length with a gross tonnage ot over 10,300 tons, and has been constructed tinder Lloyd’s special survey for the highest classiu their registry, besides complying with the Board of Trade requirements for a cargo sud passenger emigrant steamer. The vessel has been specially designed for the, owners’ frozen meat carrying trade between New Zealand and England. and four of the six cargo holds have been insulated and otherwise fitted for the carriage of frozen mutton. The decks are supported on fore and aft girders, thus dispensing with the ordinary hold pillaring, and the holds arc therefore practically free of obstruction, and arc capable of receiving consignments of large dimensions such as locomotives, boilers, and general machinery. Comfortable accommodation for a number of first-class passengers -has been arranged in a steel midship deckhouse. The staterooms are large, apartments, and the public rooms include a dining saloon at the forward end of tho deckhouse, with smokeroom adjoining. Accommodation for about one thousand emigrants is provided iti staterooms on the upper ’tween decks, tho rooms being fitted up for two, four, and six persons, while spacious dining-rooms, smokeroom, and ladies’ room are arranged on the bridge space on the shelter deck. Tho vessel is propelled by two independent sets of triple expansion engines, having all the latest improvements, and a complete installation of auxiliaries, supplied with steam from five single-ended steel cylindrical multitubular boilers working under forced draught.
