A hastily summoned mooting of the Canterbury Cricket Association’s committee was hold to-day, when a letter was read from the AVellington Cricket Association, covering a challenge to play for the Phinket Shield on January 26 and following days. It was at first thought that the match with Auckland, which is to bo played on February 9, should take precedence, but after .mature consideration, and having regard to tho rules governing Plunket Shield 111010111*. it was decided to accept the challenge for the dates suggested. CARRINGTON ROAD v. NEAV PLYMOUTH. The North Taranaki Association’s cup matches were consumed in ideal weather on Thursday. The chief interest was centred in the Carrington Road v. New Plymouth match on tho Sports Ground. Winning the toss, New Plymouth woilt in to hat on a good wicket, which was much harder and more in tl. batsman's favour than the general run of tho wickets played on during the first part of the season. Lash and Nicolt opened to the howling of Gwillim mid Smith, runs coming very slowly at the start. With 21 on the hoard Smith caught Nicoll. AVilliams followed and stayed with Lash, who was doing most of the scoring, till 46 was up, when Gwillim got one past him. Hasell opened with a four, but soon after was howled off his pads by Simpson. Brice did no!
