AUCKLAND FATALITIES. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Deo. 20. While Ernest Auger, aged 34, was cycling down Remucra Road the front wheel of his bicycle became detached and Anger fell heavily, receiving severe injuries to his head and one of his jaws. Ho was removed to the hospital in an unconscious state, and mas since died. . John Alexander M'Connell was riding in a taxi-cab driven by a man named Battv along the Beach Road, and met two horses which the driver states wore unattended. To avoid a collision with them he turned the car sharply, with the result that he struck a tramway pole. M'Conucll jumped from or was thrown out of the car. He was conveyed to the hospital unconscious, and died there two hours Inter. M'Connell, who was 36 years of age, was employed ao an accountant. He leaves a wife and family of young children. SUICIDE BY CHARCOAL FUMES. WELLINGTON. Dec. 19. A Reel ion man named Coutts. aged 47, employed at the llcamatua sawmills, built a small man-house, and, arming himself with a charcoal stove and wet sacks, blocked up the aperture, filled it with charcoal hanes, and was suffocated. People wondered why Coutts built a box so carefully. At the inquest a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane was returned. INQUEST AT AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, Dec. 19. At the inquest on (ho hotly of Gerald Allred Byrne, the victim oi a drowning accident in St. George’s Bay on Sunday, a verdict of accidental death by drowning was returned. The evidence showed that Albert Nelson, ol Parnell, was first to observe the accident, and, putting off in a dinghy, secured the deceased and took him ashore, oilier rescuers picking up three other members of the capsized crow. In recording their verdict the jury gave expression to their appreciation ol Albert Nelson's plucky action. A STEVEDORE FATALLY INJURED ■WELLINGTON. Dec. 19. William Whixon, a stevedore, who sustained a severe tail while working on the Manuka last Friday, died,to-day in the hospital. He was a single man, agdcl about 45. A sling of cargo, which was being hoisted, struck him and'sent him over the vessel’s side on to the wharf, twenty feet below. Ho struck a crane in his descent, and sustained a compound fracture of the skull and other injuries. FALL FROM SCAFFOLDING. WELLINGTON, Deo. 19. Matthew Ritchlesh, a builder's labourer, while engaged at the now Adolphi Theatre, fell irom scaffolding twelve foot high, and sustained an injury to his spine. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. He is 42 years of ago and married, FOUND DEAD. . . GISBORNE. Dec. 19. A farmer of the district, named Major Siiind, was f.onnd dead on the road at Waihorohere to-day, A post-mortem examination will bo held to-morrow. There are no details. DEATH FROM EXPOSURE. WHANGAREI. Deo. 20. The police have been advised that William Bishop, n gumdigger, has been found dead near Kirikui, Buy of Islands. Ho had been ill, and'wandered away and died of exposure.
