SAUNDERS’ BIOGRAPH PICTURES. Au excellent house greeted tho new change of programme submitted at Whiteley Half)art einning. Particularly brilliant is the scAnio study “Basilica of St. Marc” and an educational scientific picture. “Chemical Action.” Tho “star” pictures are all good, including “The Changing of Silas Warner” (a Vita graph drama) and “Peace Offerings” (a comedy by the same studio), “A Byzantine Tragedy” is a thrilling drama of several centuries ago, finely acted and mounted. The of tbo evening, however, is the masterpiece “Queen of Nineveh.” The picture is beautifully mounted, and gives a clear insight into the old Assyrian legends and customs. “Fascinating Bachelors” (a Ltibin comedy), “The Bakers, Comic Equilibrists,” and “Tontolini Law Student” are all LrsLclass comic subjects. Tins programme will bo shown .again to-night and to-morrow. ROYAL PICTURES AND ORCHESTRA. Hie change of programme at tho Theatre Royal last night attracted a very good attendance, and those present evidently had no limit to find with tho very satisfactory assortment of pictures t-creeiied. The gem of tho selection was undoubtedly that depicting our own town and its surroundings. Unfortunately, this film has now been withdrawn, and is fully booked throughout New Zealand lor many weeks In advance. A beautiful scenic picture of Rome, allowing the fountains of "Four Toarcnts,” the villa of Medici, the Castk* of St. Angelo, Porta Maggioru and its many beautiful cascades is easily one of the finest scenics seen hero. “Anld Robin Gray” is one of tbo Vitagrnph Company’s newest releases, and some Remarkably fine scones and acting, which should appeal to all, are shown in this magnificent production. “An Episode in 1812” w’as excellently portrayed and mounted in Rathe Frcres’ usual capable manner. “A Double Elopement” was a fine drama, well acted and shown with exceeding clearness. Tho humorous comedies, entitled “Jealous Jake,” “Love in Quarantine,” and “Disturbing Elements,” caused much laughter and aching sides. Tho now programme will bo repeated again this evening.
