THE LAW’S DELAYS.

THE CASE OF GERLACH. By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. (Received Nov. 15, 9.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 15. Tho Government has received information from Germany that Wilhelm Gerlaoh, who wai arrested by the German authorities at Port Said on a charge of tho murder of Coleman at Dungog (New South Wales) on November 19, 1909, has been committed for trial. The charge has been reduced to manslaughter, because there is no evidence to show that tho crime was. premeditated. The delay was caused by Gerlach’s solicitor lodging a plea of insanity. It was therefore necessary that tho prisoner should bo lodged in a hospital for tho insane to undergo mental examination.
