WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD.

At tho monthly meeting of the above board there were present; Mr. J. Connett (chairman), Messrs. French, Hall, and Turnbull.

Correspondence was read from Mr. Dowsett, stating that his estimates of cost of rebuilding the bridge on Manutahi East Road might be reduced by using tho present concrete pier; from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, stating that unless special legislation was obtained ho did not consider that the tioard would bo able to lease Sisson Terrace; from Mr. F. Hoskin, stating that he intended to charge Gd per yard royalty on all metal taken from his pit in future; and from tho Moa Road Board, stating that they would prefer that this board agreed to pay half cost of upkeep of Davis Road instead of giving an annual contribution of £6.

The Chairman reported that he had interviewed Mr. J. Pnrdie re surface water from Waitara Road running on his property, and thought that the water might be turned in further down tho road, to which Mr. Purdie would have no objection.—lt was decided to do this, Mr. Purdie to be informed of the board’s intention. Mr. Hall reported that Mr. Dobson would bo unable to assist tho surfaceman in putting in culverts on tho Everett Road, and the surfacemen were instructed to do the work as soon as possible. Tho Chairman re]>orted that Mr. Tato would start grading roads in the district in a day or two. He had also arranged with the Countv Council to roll the new metal put clown by Mr. Montefiore, with their steam roller, and had asked them to arrange re grading their portion of the Corbett Road when the grader was doing tho hoard’s portion.

Mr. French stated that ho had arranged with Montefiore to tip 20 yards of metal on To Are! Road by the entrance to the station, instead of delivering 13 yards above the mill.

Mr. Trimble . (chairman) and Mr. Ogior (clerk), of the Moa Road Board, attended tho meeting re maintenance of the Davis Road, and it was resolved to give an annual contribution of up to two-thirds of the rates received from property which benefits by tho road being metalled as a payment tor half the upkeep of the said road. The chairman will interview Mr. F. Hoskin re his notice that he intends charging 6d per yard royalty on metal taken from his pit. Mr. French will see Mr. H. George re repairing the bridge on Manutahi East Road, and report at next meeting. Surfaceman Palmer reported that he had been engaged during tho past month in rocoatmg tho Te Arei Road whore damaged 'by Mr. Moutetiore’s drays, had cleared portion of York Road in readiness for road-grader, and had put an 18-inch culvert in oil the Karaka Road.

Surfaceman Giddy reported that he blinding new metal put on Te Arei Road by Montefiore, with screenings from stonc-crusher, had earth'd pipes to Karaka Road, and had been getting out metal for Manutahi Bast and Richmond Roads.

Tho following contracts were let; —To Messrs., Johnson and Jenkins, 40 yards, Aclcworth Road, at 7s per yard, carting 70- yards Richmond Road, at 2s 6d per yard, and 20 yards, Manutahi East, at Is 6d per yard ; to Haskell and Co., 50 yards, Brown Road, at 5s 9d per yard, 30 .yards Manutahi West, at 4s 6d per yard, 50 yards, Kelly, at Ss per yard, 70 yards, Lower Te Arei, at 4s per yard, lOOyards, Tate, at 4s 9cl per yard, 100 yards, Wortlcy, at 4s per yard, and carting for repairs to Upper Te Arei at 2s 6d per yard; to E. Richards, carting metal to Cross and, YVaitara Roads at 3s and 4s per yard. : Acoounts amounting to £45 were phssed .for payment, and tho board adjourned,
