VALEDICTORY.
STIUTFORD COUNTY COUNCIL’S LAST MEETING. Wednesday’s was the last meeting of the Stratford County Council as at present constituted, and reference was made to the matter before members dispersed in the evening, Tho Chairman (Councillor G. A. Marchant) said he desired to express to members his thanks for uniform kindness and courtesy extended to him by members during the time he had been chairman. The roads spoke for themselves, good wine needed no hush. People who travelled throughout tho comity knew bv the state of the roads how well the affairs of the county were administered. Councillor Maxwell said he wished to express his personal thanks to tho chairman, who had always extended tiie fullest information to h/m. as. indeed, he had to all members. Ho also wished to place on record his appreciation of Mr. Marchant’s thorough knowledge of public affairs and of the energy he put into his work. On the whole, his May on the council had been a very pleasant one. He would look hack on his stay in the council with pleasure, and would regard it as a most valuable' education in public matters. He considered himself fortunate in having sat under such a chairman as Mr, Merchant. Councillor Porritt, who, having ceased to be a ratepayer, is ineligible for re-election, expressed his thanks to members and tho chairman for their treatment of him during his term of office.
