Word has been received by cable of the safe arrival in England of the Rev, and Mrs. Colvile. A London cablegram reports the death of Mr. A. R. Rainy, the Liberal member for Kilmarnock Burghs.
Mr. E. Looney, an old s'ettler down the coast, fell from his horse on tho Oakura Bridge on Friday, and had not recovered consciousness yesterday afternoon.
Air. George Brown has been appointed Government veterinary surgeon at New Plymouth, and his services will be at the disposal of farmers and stockowners generally to investigate any serious outbreak of disease and to give advice as to the prevention of disease in stock. Before coming put to New Zealand under engagement with tho New Zealand Government to join the Veterinary Department, Mr. Brown had been in practice in various parts of England.
