While the collier Wallarah was lying in Catherine Hill Bay thechief officer, M'Connachie, and the second officer, M’Guire, wore sleeping over a locker containing rockets. They awakened to find the cabin full of flames, but managed to escape. M’Connachie is seriously injured, and M’Guire is badly scorched.

An explosion, caused by the rockets, followed, hut the crew subdued the fire. The Wallarah is badly damaged amidships.
