CONTROL OF THE PACIFIC.
A WORD FOR SYDNEY, (Received Jan. 7, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 6. The Morning Post says that Australia would bo the natural headquarters for the High Commissioner of the Pacific. He would still act on his own responsibility, subject to. The Colonial Office, but the propinquity to the Commonwealth Government would ensure duo consideration of their wellinformed views and the rival claims of New Zealand therefore would not arise. MR. CARROLL INTERVIEWED. AUCKLAND, Jan. 7. The Hon. Mr. Carroll, interviewed, stated that the Government had no intimation that tho headquarters of the High Commissioner of the Pacific was to ha removed from Fiji. If such action was contemplated the controversy ns to the best administrative base, Sydney or Auckland, would cause the authorities to hesitate before taking any action.
