MINING.
Following is the report of the manager of Mills Howard Bold Mining Company, lit”., dated Coromandel, Doc. 24: No. 2 liOvel. —In this level the men have driven a further distance of 21ft, making G4ft from tho crosscut in a splendid looking channel of andesite country highly mineralised. Tho reef since passing tho slide reported in my last has been pinched out, hut is starting to make again in the face and is now about 12in wide, the stone looking much better than it did before we passed the elide, and tho prospects have improved. Motnroa Section. —Progress since last report is 15ft, making 28ft driven. The reef for tho last Bft has been very much split up into stringers, therefore the, prospects have not been so good. It appears to mo that wo have gone through tho run of gold, the best being along the floor of the drive. I have decided to put a drive lower down, say about 40ft, to pick up the run, and there aro every indications that it will turn out payable. What I have seen of this section I have every confidence of it turning out well, as loose gold can bo obtained over a considerable distance on the surface, and the lead I reported in my Inst has produced a few nice pieces of picked stone. The stone was got in a trench on tho crown of a spur. Tho load is small, but appears to he making as it goes down on tho solid. I am trenching lower do.p-n to try to pick up the lead, and will then drive in on the same.
