The steamer Knight of the Garter, from Shanghai, reports that she passed the steamer Papanui (which left .Melbourne on December 5 for Japan flying a foreign flag) on tho 19th instant in latitude 2deg., 57mm. south and longitude 152dcg. fllmiii; east. A good deal of interest is being taken in the forthcoming examinations for admission to the Australian Military College. The ten highest iu tho competitive examination will he chosen to enter on a military career.
