Alarmist telegrams from Lisbon state thht the army and navy arc disaffected, and trade unions are bitterly opposed to the Government, Tho Daily Mail’s Paris correspondent reports that the British Minister at Lisbon has asked for the immediate dispatch of a warship. Numerous cases of insubordination have occurred in the army,'and three cruisers have been sent from the Tagus on various pretexts, LISBON, Doe. 30.
A Government decree provides penalties for offences against the Provisional Government, and those spreading false and alarming reports; also punishment for broach of military discipline. THE RUMOURS DENIED. NO SERIOUS TROUBLE. (Received IVc, 31, 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, Deo. 30. Router says that the Foreign Office has received no indication of the critical situation in Portugal nor any request for a warship to bo sent. Inquiries in Portuguese circles in London do not confirm tho statements of a conspiracy, and the alleged , important Royalist movement is doubted, ft is generally admitted that the public •services are disorganised, discipline in ;he army is unsatisfactory, and tho behaviour of the public has deteriorated. Many labour disputes have interfered with certain manufacturers.
