PROHIBITED PERSONS.
AND THE SUPPLY OF PRINK.,Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Oct. 24. Docs a barman who provides a prohibited man with liquor not knowing the man to lie prohibited commit a breach of the law? Mr. Cuttcn, S.M., was called upon to decide this point at the Police Court today when Daniel Dunn, barman in the Alexandra Hotel, was charged with having sold liquor to a prohibited man. Dunn pleaded not guilty, and was defended by Mr. Earl. The barman had supplied the drink, but Mr. Earl contended that as accused did not know the man was prohibited and had no means of ascertaining if he was, there could be no conviction. The Magistrate, however, found accused guilty and inflicted a fine of 10s with costs 7e. , Mr. Earl said on behalf of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association that he would appeaL against the decision, and so endeavour to have the law definitely interpreted. .
