A SHOOTING AFFAIR.
MAN RECEIVES THREE SHOTS. BUT COLLARS HIS ASSAILANT. Per Press Association GORE, Oct. 8. A serious shooting affray occurred at AVaipounamu, near Riversdale, at midnight. It appears that a middle-aged bachelor living alone, named James Louttit, who entertained an apparent, grudge against two neighbours, brothers named Horrell, visited the farm of the older brother Edward. The first intimation of the visitor’s presence was a noise outside the bedroom window. The sash was pushed up and a small quantity of scrim saturated with kerosene or inflammable material thrown inside. Horrell jumped, out of bed,, and iwas fired at from the window,, the bullet, as far as can be ascertained, glancing off his chest and lodging in his neck. Horrell was not incapacitated, and rushed outside and made for his assailant. He ducked a second shot, which lodged in his neck, a thirds shot was located near ; the groin, ', and a fourth missed him. By this time Horrell had closed with Louttit and held him until assistance arrived. Louttit later was arrested for'attempted murder. The doctor docs not think Horrcll’s condition is serious. No bullets have been extracted. Louttit was remanded at court by Justices of the Peace, for ;eighl days for medical' treatment. Accused took no interest in the proceedings. Neighbours had prcdlctcd the present trouble..
