DEATH OF LOATES % By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright, (Received Sept. 29, 12.55 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 28. The death has occurred at Brighton suddenly-of J. Loates, jockey. ' WANGANUI RACES. OPENING DAY. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Sept. 29. The Wanganui Jockey Club's spring meeting opened to-day in glorious weather. The attendance was very large; and the track was in capital order. Twenty-eight bookmakers’were licensed, seventeen inside and eleven outside. Results;— Flying Handicap.—Faunus 1, Electrakoff 2, Mon Ami 3. Scratched: Cororietted and Dervish. Mon Ami led to the straight, whore Faunus' took tho lead, stalled off a challenge by Electrakoff, and won by half, a length. Time, linin. 14|seo.' * Maiden Hack.—Cheddar 1, Dig Blast 2, Euroco 8. Scratched: Field Bell. Eastwind led . in the first half, when Big Blast took command, but Cheddar finishing fast won by half a length. .Time. Imin 15seo. -- Guineas.—-Danube 1, Sonite 2, Tribulation 3. All started. It was a lino race. Bunkum and Warsong led at the start, and the latter, was; inicommand entering the straight, with Sonite almost level. Sonite took charge then, but was cut down by "Dantfbc, the latter winning by half a length, with Tribulation close up. Time, linin 42Jsec. Okehu Hurdles.—Tauira 1, Xavier 2, Wimmera 3. ; Scratched: Sardonyx and Maharauui. A good race. Won by half a length. Three lengths between second and third. Time, 3min. ICsoc. GERALDINE RACING CLUB. ORARI, Sept. 29. The Geraldine spring meeting opened in fine weather to-day. Results:— Hack and Hunters’ Hurdlcs.-r-Beck-nell I, Waitabit 2, Slow Meg 3. Won by six lengths.
