RAILWAY LEAGUE.
TO SECURE JUSTICE FOR NORTH ISLAND. Per Press Association PALMERSTON N., Juno 24. Delegates of tho Chambers of Commerce from all parts of tho North Island mot in conference at Palmerston to-day with a view to forming a North Island Railway League. MR Haydon (president of the local Chamber) presided, and delegates spoke at ~ length on tho unfair allocation of public works money for railway construction between the two islands, and also regarding the differential freight and passenger The meeting resolved that a North Island Railway League be formed, constituted by delegates from tho North Island Chambers of. Commerce, w’th the object of obtaining a fairer distribution of railway expenditure as uetween the North and South Islands, - imd vith the object of inquiring into the system of differential freights and r.rtes, between the North and v South Islands. It was further resolved that the i iembership consist of members' of Chambers of Commerce of tho North Island and other public bodies, as the League from time to time determines; delegates from Chambers not to < xccod two; each Chamber to be entitled to one vote at the League meetings. Tho first general meeting is to bo held at Palmerston during Winter Show Week in 1911. Mr. W. Haydon was elected president. It was further resolved that this meeting, representing the whole of the Chambers of Commerce in the North Island, -desires to call the attention of the Government to the injustice which the. North Island has suffered for years past in the matter of railways, and strongly urges that a more vigorous policy of railway, construction be at once undertaken in the North Island.
