ORGAN RECITAL.
, Thero was a large attendance at St. : , Mary's Church last night, when Mr. -, I It. N. Renaud, the church organist, i ! gave a recital, assisted by Mr. H. S. i Salt (violin) and the choir. The pro- j gramme was admirably chosen, and on the whole equally well rendered. Mr. / i Kenaud, as on former occasions, showed | complete mastery over the king of in- " stnimcnts. His second item, Larghet- * I to from Syirfphony in D (No. 2), for full t orchestra, given by request, is a beau- ' , tiful movement, in which Beethoven is heard in his serenest mood. The Tog- ' \ eato irom Organ Symphony No. 5, also given by request, was a decidedly clever contribution. We, however, liked Mr. ' I Renaud best in Lera.are'B Andantiuo in c I) ilat. U <imb.race.B B orne sweetly k pretty organ music, and the organist, , , Ijcnitf in entire sympathy with the com- v posc-r, a better rendition would be al- y ' most impossible. Mr. Renaud 's other item was Chopin's Polonaise A Majoi f '. (Polonaise Militaire). The contributions of Mr. Salt were greatly admired. f Though a young player, Mr. Salt has . attained to a high position among violin- r ' ists. He gave three items : (a) Medita- r tion on Bach's Ist Prelude (Gounod), Jjf (b) Intermezzo (Mascagni), and Andante p from Violin Concerto (Mendelssohn), j and in each displayed fine technique, p The choir was not at fuU strength, several of its members being out oi town. The result was that the choru: n "For I had gone forth" (42nd Psalm) suffered somewhat, Miss Baker took j the solo. A collection was taken uj in aid of the organ fund.. c
