THE HAGGAR TROPHY.
The New Plymouth Homing Club held its interval race for the Haggar Trophy. presented by Mr. W. 11. Haggar, ot Christchurch, from Johnsonville (Wellington) yesterday. The trophy had to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals to become the abso"lnte property of a member. Last season was the first in which it was competed for, Mr. G. A. Comey's WhakaCane being the successful bird. The race was held from Auckland on the north route. This year the same member's Sceptre proved the winner, covering the distance of 187 miles air lino in 4hr«. 39|min. The trophy therefore becomes the property of Mr. Corney. Seven members competed in the race, the birds being liberated at regular intervals of ten minutes- Following were the first three birds: — G. A. Corney's Sceptre, time 4hrs. 3?>jmut., velocity 1147 yds. lft. lin., Ist; V. H. Beal's'Ladv Madcap, time 4hrs. <i!)min., velocity 1110 yds. 2rt. 9in., 2nd; E. Ward's Exhib-tion, time Gin's. 12iinn.. velocity Sotyds. lit. 3in. Mr. Benl was also runner up last year.
