GENEROUS DONORS IN DUNEDIN
Per Press Asuoniation. •DUNEDIN, Sept. 16. Mr. John J. Virgo, national secretary of ±he V.M.C.A. of Australia and New Zetland, who is at present on a visit to Dunedin, was accorded a civic welcome this morning and was subsequently entertained at luncheon by the V.M.C.A. In the course of a speech, Mr. Virgo referred to the present position in regard to a new building for the local Association. Not long ago the ■ V.M.C.A. raised £14,000 for the new building, of which £3000 has been spent in the purchase of a site, leaving £11,000 available for the building and equipment. In order to carry out \ho original intentions, the Association requires £7000 more. Mr. Virgo then mentioned that a cablegram recently received from Mr. P. A. Sarg^ood offering to guarantee £1000. giving five years to collect, provided over £4000 was raised in addition. Another gentleman who had given £500 to the first campaign said, "Put me down for another £500." Then a lady offered £200 . Thus nearly £3000 was already in sight. Mr. Virgo eonoluded by making an appeal for the raising of the balance required.
