September 15.— 8y a narrow majority the Borough Council has decided to continue the €30 contribution to the District Health Inspector's salary until March 31. This is the outcome of a conference with the Chief Inspector, but, as one of the councillors remarked. l)r Valintine had not told the council w by it should contribute to the salary whilst other local bodies had the advantage of the inspector's services for nothing. The borough foreman s salary lias been increased to £208 per annum, lie has. however, a £ood many and various duties, being quite a crowd of inspectors, besides an engineer or two, a caretaker, and a ranger.
