ARMSTRONG'S FINE BOWLING.

The weather wai sunny at Hasting*, where the game was played, and tno wicket easy. There was only a small attendance. Details of the play are as follow : — _ ' AUSTRALIA.— First Innings. Douglas £ Sundries 18 Total 199 Bowling Analysis — Douglas, seven for 75 ; Vincent, two for 37 ; Dennett, none for 52; Arnold, none for 9; Crawford, none for 8. AUSTRALIA AT THE WICKETS. Whitty, hitting out. added 19, while Macalister put on 10. The second nicket fell at 127. Relf dismissing Whitty with a good catch at long-off. The' third wicket went nine runs later. Macalister batted faultlessly. His innings lasted two hours, during which time he hit eight fourers. — Four for 147. Gregory succumbed to one of Douglas's yorkers. — Five for 151. Ransford was brilliantly caught low down at second slip, while Noble was snapped np ia the slips. The sixth wicket fell for 158, the seventh for 168, and the eighth for 176. Armstrong staved in for 46 minutes, and lost his wicket in playing back. — Nine for 182.
