What suited England would not alwayssuit her dependencies. The great .issue at stake was whether Britain add the colonies were to be welded into »compact body, or the colonies to drift apart and go their seTeral wra, making their own commercial treaties with foreign Powers. The time for preferential treatment was- ripe, and the chance should not be let slip.
