LEPPERTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) August 24. —Since sending in' the last notes we have had a fire — a rather unusual thing for Lepperton, An 'old building formerly occupied by Mrs. Mather was burnt to the ground, The cause is Mippospd to be dye to atmospheric influences The weather ia very genial ,a"t ptesent, and there are all the indications of an early spring. The cows aro coming in freely, and the local factory has started to run every day, which is quite unusual for August. The air ship has really been seen here, and by people who are strictly in favour of prohibition. A meeting of the Xepperton branch of the Farmers' Union ' took place- in the hall on Tuesday evening, Mr. E. Hellier presiding. Mr. Sim, the organising secretary, was present, and gave a very interesting address dealing j-rineipally with the farmers' mutual fire insurance. ( It is satisfactory to note that the company has not been "hit" during the year. Any loss hns been a mere bagatelle.' and there is not tho slightest chance of premiums going up. An agent may probably be appointed in Nnw iiynuinth tp dou'ihe farmers' busin«'«w, which seems, a y*»ry desirable thing. Thc> usual monthly meeting of the branch takes place-on Honda v evening next, when a full "atK, tendance is requested.
