A BAD CASES.
AUCKLAND, August 26. In the Supreme Court £o-oay. James Campbell was* charged on four countb with having committed rape upon two women and assaulting them with intent to commit rape. The prisoner pleaded '/not guilty." In summing up, his Honour said this was a particularly shocking case, and the evidence against the prisoner appeared to bo absolutely conclusive, being corroborated by all the surrounding eirrunistances. The jury returned a verdict of "guilty" without leaving the box. - His Honour said the case was so. shocking that be was not at all sure that he ought not to order flogging. He would like an opinion from the juryThe foreman said the jury was of opinion that this was a case in which the prisoner should be made an example of. The prisoner was remanded for sentence till to-morrow.
