A PERILOUS TRIP.
A PECULIAR COURTS CASE. Per Press Association. ' ' WELLINGTON, August 26. In the Supreme Court to-day,, Sebastian Newson, who chartered the scow Roan for * salving operations' at Palliser Bay, was charged witii having sent the scow to sea in an unfit condition. When the Rona was sent 'on the expedition she had nine persons aboard. She leaked badly, and went ashore in Pallißer Bay, and broke -up. In explaining the case against Newson, Mr. Myers, Crown Prosecutor, said the case was somewhat peculiar. Indeed, he had never heard of such a case before the Court* of New, Z;ea)and. It did not arise under the Crimes Acr. The facts of the' case wtte that on the beach at Palliser Ray there was al-.vessela l-.ves-sel ashore dUTWK March last. The' accused thought he would make an attempt to salve tho wreck. He theretore chartered the Rona, which had been lying on the beach at Roipa Bay for some months.
