ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
Leslie Moodie was charged with having on August 5, at Urenui, attempted to commit suicide by cutting his throat wfth a raaor. Accused pleaded gu-lty. In answer to his Worship, Aloodie said he was 23 years old. and wj s a bushfeller by occupation. Sergeant Haddrell explained that accused was not of very good intellect, but not sufficiently dull in mind to be sent to an asylum. On the night when he committed the offence he attended « dance. He went to bed, but got m> in the middle of the night and cut his throat. There was not the slightest reason for the act, which was doubtless caused by hallucinations. Accused s brother had been looking after bin; lately, and was going to take him back to Australia to his .people. Moodie's brother stated that accused was a steady man and did not driak. A few days before the offence was committed he had been hit on the head by a stick while bushfelling, being knocked down, and this seemed to have affe:tci his head a little. Accused was convicted and orfiereJ to come up for sentence when called upon.
