COMPLAINTS ABOUT AUCKLAND PROMOTIONS.
AUCKLAND, August 25. At the Police Commission to-day, Constable Foreman said, he had personally declined promotion, but said thercwas a good deal of influence connected therewith. He mentioned the following cases in which juniors bad been promoted over seniors :-rHodgsoa over 111 seniors. Keith over 191 seniors. O'Reilly over J3l seniors. Ernes over 139 seniors. . Green over. 148 seniors. \X7njnming* over 280 seniors. Setvesnt Sheahan, as a deputation from the sorgeants, said probationers should be employed: for twelve months al 7» 6d per day. Inspectors should have power to end promotions at any time during that peribd. He objected to preferential promotion of plamclothss men.
