Using a duplicate key, ten smartly dressed men entered ' Mappin and Webb's warehouse, at Cheapside, On Sunday afternoon. With a jemmy they assaulted the watchman to prevent his raising an alarm and inflicted serious wounds on his head. Five of them escaped, but the watchman, crawling to the entrance, shouted for the police, and the five others, emerging with several thousand pounds worth of jewellery and plate, wire arrested. They had in their pockets masks and gloves, the latter intended to conceal their finger prints. Seven thousand pounms worth of goods were found packed on the premise* ready for removal. ,The capture is regarded as of considerable importance. •
