WELLINGTON, July 26. 1 he report on the City Council's electric lighting department for the year ended March 31 last shows a gross revenue of £44,021. The total expenses wore £2.5,018, and the net surplus, after providing for interest si nking fund, and depreciation, is £42/2. Durum the voar consumers increased in number from 3683 to 4136. The report refers to the fact that metallic filament lamps have come into extensive use. They had decreased the cost of coiisumption to the consumer by about /0 ior cent. The engineer says the time is rapidly approaching when the ne« lamps will be procurable at about hall their present cost, effecting a revolution in electric lighting and considerably decreasing the gross revenue ot the' department.
