A COSTLY EXPERIMENT.

Reference to tho Momohaki expcri- ( mental farm was made by Mr. G. V. j IVarce, member for Patea, in the , course of Ins Addreas-in-reply speech. ' Tho farm, he said, had been for some considerable time run at a loss of about , £2000 a year. It v.as necessary to re- J duce that expenditure, and he thought it could easily be reduced because there were many things done there that could be just as well done without. However, he thought it was necessary that they should encourage the farming industry by making experiments in different directions, and this farm had been ot creat use in that respect. If they did away with some of the frills attached to the Momohaki farm, the cost could be reduced by about a thousand pounds, while still making provision for experiments, and he suggested that the farm be used as a school of instruction lor boys who desired instruction in agricultural matters.
