As well as separate prizes for each lncual handicap, a prize will be given for the best gross score for the two match «s (that is 36 holes). The winners of this prize will not be entitled to take a handicap prize. The handicaps of t!i-> L.G.U. will be used when .available. Entries close with the secretary of the Niramotu Ladies' Club (Miss MKollar/ not lat*r than 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 28. Negotiations for a match between LLo Waitara and Vogeltow n clubs are proceeding. The match will probably eventuate in about a fortnight. The first roujid of the laohes' championship at Ngamotu will be played on Tuesday. The Vogeltown Club is to have a club house. The building will not be a very large or lavish oi.e. It is only intended that it shall serve the purpose of members until the club's funds allow of the erection of a larger house. Mrs. Mellsop, hon. sec. of the L>-I'-}'-for New Zealand, has received a letter from Miss Lythgoe (of England) who was runner-up in the Ladies Open Championship at Portrusii, had a i>lu« 3 handicap in the Ljtham and St. A#ne's Club, and scratch in the L.0.1 . \liss Lythgoo became professional coach to' her club and now wishes to come to New Zealand in a hke capacity and Mrs. Mellsop has suggested to the various affiliated clubs that while id one club could afford the luxury the whole of the New Zealand ladies cluos could do so jointly by offering succesive engagements as coach to the lnclv who no doubt would materially help on ladies' golf. The work of fencing the greens on the Vogeltown links is nearmg completion. When this is finished, attention will be centred on the groens— rolling, cutting, et». . f L W. Alexander, an ex-member of theNgamotu Club, last week won the captain's prize in the junior division ot the Auckland Club. Referring to Alexander, the Auckland Herald says he is a steady player, and has given good accounts of himself in previous tournaments. Alexander is a new player in the club, having lately come to Auckland from the Taranaki Club. He plays better in match-play than in medal, at times getting in a number of very fine holes, but others are somewhat patchy. He has rather a curious Btyle when addressing the ball, taking a preliminary swing with his club, which might at times be taken for an air show. . , , Hawera and Stratford clubs are endeavouring to arrange return matches with the TJgamotu Club. No definite dates have as yet been fixed. A match between the ladies of the Ngamotu and Stratford clubs will probably be played at an early date. The monthly cleek competition at the Wellington Club's links last Saturday was won by T. S. Weston, who defeated K. Duncan in the play off with a net score of 74. The Auckland Golf Club will move into new "premises" next season (says the Herald). The club has acquired a fine freehold property of 144 acres at Otahuhu, where it Is intended to lay out a scientific championship course. The present links at Cornwall Park will be abandoned this year. A largo amount of money has been spent in purchasing the freehold, but so keen were the members in acquiring the pro-
perty that £2600 was forthcoming in a wook, in order to make the purchase. The links are described as being very tine ones.
