' The croquet season had a most successful closing day on Saturday. . Ihe Tether «a S all that could he desired and there was a good entry received for the progressive tournament. It was the first time a match or thw kind had been played on the local courts, and it proved a great success. Tw enty minutes was the time allowed for each game, the object of the p la yers be.ng to gain as many hoops in that time as possil.le, every player having to stop playing directly a bell rang. Miss Deacon gained 34 points (making 20 points in one game) : Mrs I< itzieri.crt and Mrs Mills tied for second place with 27 each, the former winning in the draw; Mrs Claike was third with 2.V, Mrs Collins fourth with 22; and Mis Couitney and Miss M hollar fifth and sixth with 21 each. The M>ason just closed has shown a marked improvement in the general play, and keen interest has Ix-en taken \n •<• various matches.
