THE DREADNOUGHT PROPOSAL.
(To the Editor.) „
kiir. — 1 am dissatisfied with the wa) my letter was altered, upon the abovt proposal. The sense of the reading wasspoiled. I will thank you if you will do me the favour of inserting this short letter.' I said that in respect to the urgency ot the Premier's action, that there was no real cause for it. Also, that we need a man at the heau of affairs, with some moral stamina in him. Also, that Mr Taylor with a little more caution and experience woulci make a good Premier. — I am, etc., JAMES FORTUNE.
P.S. —There is nothing here but what is right, honest, and necessary. II Sir J. Ward is vulnerable it is not my fault, and men with sins and follies ought not to be screened. [Two or three lines were inadvertently omitted from Mr Fortune's first lettef. The sentence, "I consider there is no real cause for it," should hay* read': "I consider j\jr Taylor is quiti right in saying that the above act ib unconstitutional. As to your pleas for immediate action, I consider there it no real cause for it." It will be no--ticed that all the words between thi two "I considers" were omitted. Ii the other case the sentence "We need very much a man at the head of af fairs with more caution," etc, should have read, "We need with some moral stamina in him. I think Mr Taylor, with a little more caution,' etc. We regret the omissions, whicl. were quite accidental. —Ed T.H.]
