LOAN AND MERCANTILE.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., in its weekly report dated Auckland, March 31, 1909, says: —
Horses. — At the Durham Yards on Friday a good, many horses were brought forward and disposed of. Heavy draughts sold at from £22 10s to £35; medium do., £16 10s to £27; hacks and light harness horses, £6 10s to £19, weeds, 2 10s to £6 los. Cattle. — At the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday dairy and store stock were penned in usual numbers. Dairy cows sold at from £3 10s to £6, empty cows £2 2s to £3 ss, calves 18s to £i 7s. Jieef was yarded in full quantities and the quality throughout was good. The advance in last week's rates was maintained. Oxen sold to 21s per 100 1b and cows 17s to 19s. Steers sold at from £6 10s to £9 15s, cows £3 10s to £6.
Sheep. — Sheep were penned in average numbers and sold at late rates. WetKers realised from 10s 6d to 17s, ewes 9s 9d to 13s 9d, store ewes 4s to 7s od, hoggets 8s 6d to 12s, lambs, wellfattened 8s 9d to 11s, other sorts 4s 3d to 7s 6d.
Pigs. — Porkers sold at from 10s fid to €1 7s, weaners os fid to 12s Gd, baconers €1 10s to £2 12s.
Oats. Oats are in good demand nt 2s Id to 2s 2d.
Chaff.— Chaff is worth £3 10s at railway if of good quality. Maize. — Local 4s 7d, imported 4s sd. Potatoes. — Prime Southern are selling at £4 15s to £o, Butter.— Good quality is selling freely at 9d and 9Jd ; second quality "id to Bd.
Cheese. — Farmers' is very slow salt* at sd.
