REV. HILDER FAREWELLED.

On Thursday evening the Rev. M. J. Hilder, who has been transferred to the Ohura district, was farcwelled hy the friends at Carrington' Road. Last night there .vtr> a large gathering at tlio South Road Methodist Church when another farewell social was tendered the Rev. Mr. Hilder, who during his connection with the Whiteley Circuit has made himself very popular with all with whom he has come in contact. During <he evening Mrs. M 'lsaac, on behalf of the South Koad congregation, presented to the guest of the evening a handsome silver teapot. The Chairman," Mr. J. W. Boon, and Messrs. H. Black, E. Chatterton. and J. Gibson each made complimentary remarks concerning the work of the Rev. Mr. Hilder in the circuit. The Rev. T. G. Brooke, superintendent minister, delivered a farewell address, expressive of the loss that would be sustained by the circuit in the removal of the Rev. Hilder from their midst. He referred to the Methodist Chirreh system of itinerary as one which gave clergymen a varied and valuable experience, enlarging their sphere of usefulness. He said he knew of no young man in the connexion who was bettor fitted for the work in the Ohura district than was the guest of tho evening. The Rev. Hilder, in replying, said he had to thank the South Road and New Plymouth peppje for many kindnesses. Speaking ot his> new charge, he said that Ohura was in the backblocks today, just as Stratford had been thirty jears ago, and the settlors were undergoing trials such as New Plymouth had conquered long ago. But in a very short time Mangaroa was going to bean important distributing centre of a district whose trade should come to New Plymouth jf the people here made an energetic move to secure it. Ho concluded by returning' thanks for the presentation and for tnris kind farewell gathering, i During the evening were sung by Misses Blake and Oxenham and Mr. M 'Isaac, Miss Cannel] playing the accompaniments.

As advertised in this issue Messrs Webster Bros, will sell by auction at the Drill Shed on Thursday next the furniture and effects salvaged from the late fire at Jubilee Boarding House, in Currie Street. Full particulars will be advertised later.

In this issue will be found full particulars of the drapery sale to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday next, in the old Masonic Hall, Brougham Street, by Messrs Webster Bros.

Owing to counter attractions on Monday and the Easter holidays following, the first practice of Mr Cornwall's Choral Club will be held on April 19. Those who have given their names arc asked to be present at this practice, and in the meantime Mr Cornwall will be pleased to receive the names of other intending members. A splendid lot of glees, quartettes, etc., have been procured, and the work to be done should prove both enjoyable and instructive.

The Plunket Nurse can be consulted on Wednesdays and Fridays at the Town Hall, New Plymouth. The day lor demonstrating the mailing of humanised milk has been altered to Wednesday in each week.

Mr E. G. Skcates has been in New Plymouth for the past ten days remodelling the New Plymouth branch of Messrs Skeates Bros.' jewellery business. The firm has now completely separated their premises from that of Mr Gunson, next door, and have added a quantity of new stock which should please their Taranaki customers..
