Owners and trainers are reminded that acceptances for all handicaps and general entries for Maiden Scurry at the Feilding Jockey Club close to-night at 8.30.

Owners and trainers are reminded that nominations for the Manawatu Racing Club's autumn meeting close on Monday next, April 5. at 10 p,.m. Nelson is to go "dry" at its races (says an exchange) } a majority of. the recently elected Licensing Committee having refused to grant the application for conditional license. *

Owing to an extraordinary demand for copies of The Budget of March 20, agents having any unsold copies are requested to post same in to this office. v^ Contributors and correspondents to the Herald and The Budget would oblige us if they could write their copy in ink instead of in pencil. Since the introduction of the linotype in newspaper offices extra care has been taken to ensure copy being read at a glance. The old-time compositor prided himself in being able to decipher illegible copy ; he had time to ponder over it, if he did make a mistake it was a simple matter for him to correct a word. But a linotype operator is in a different position. His machine costs between £800 and £1000 and in order tr make It pay for itself he has to mani pulate it with the utmost dexterity In order to do this he must have clear copy. The Borough Council invites applications for the position of working overseer of streets in the borough at a salary of £3 per week.
