Colonrl of the 44th Merward Infantry in 1889. He was assistant QuartermasteiGe.neral, Bombay command, in 1895 . Political Resident and General Officer commanding Aden from 1898 to 1900 ; served in China in 1901, being mentioned in despatches. Ho was decorated for valour in the Afghan War of 1879-1880; the Zhob Expedition and the China Expedition.]
