THE NEW CLUB.
Some ,weeks ago it /was rumoured that the establishment of another Golf Club in New Plymouth was being contomphited. Nothing corroborative was heard, however, until about a week ago, when it was said that a number <>i" gclrers. and residents of Vqgoltown iutomjed to institute a club in their district. The subject was considered nt a Snooting last evening. There was a fair gathering ot ladies and gentlemen, who were' presided over by Mr,Geb. Grey, Mr A. H. Steeds acting as' secretary pro tern. It was dooidecl to form a'club, tho name of which should be deferred until next meeting. It was. resolved .that those present should toe eligible for membership without election, .and further that .those present at tjie next meeting and people who forwarded, their names as intending members should be eligible for mombevship without election. ' The question of ground, ways and means, and 'the drawing up of rules was doalCwith. It was decided that a conunitfee, composed of G. Grey, A. D. Gray, L. G. Spencer, and Steeds, should go into the question. Mr T. C. Schnackenberg remarked that though there was not a very large gathering present it " must: not bethought that the meeting, represented ihe strength of the new, club.,. The speaker wont on to say that he knew of some .fifty-three persons who had signified their intention of joining ;the club. Mr G. Grey said that he had not tho slightest doubt that a membership of sixty could be obtained. ' * \ Another meeting will be held in.tbe Council Chambers next Thursday evening, when tho project will bo further discussed.
