INGLEWOOD

(From Our Own Correspondent.) December 21.— The Domain Board held its monthly meeting in the Borough Council Chambers on the 18th instant. The month's receipts amounted to £3 9s; An account for £1 3s 3d was passed for payment. A special meeting of the Borough Council was held the same evening. The Mayor (Mr Curtis) and Councillors Bennett, Brown, Surrey, Winfield and Young were in attendance. The meeting had been called for the purpose .of confirming a resolution striking a special rate for sanitary purposes and to receive the committee s reports on the Tennis Club's application to be connected with the water supply and on the best method of clearing the borough properties from noxious weeds. The resolution levying the rate was confirmed. It was decided that the Tennis Club should be offered the water at 20s per annum. The committee reported having drawn up specifications for the, cutting qf noxious weeds and called for tenders. One tender had been received but the committee considered the price (£57) too high and so did not accept. The Mayor find Councillor Brown were, empowered to offer the cutting of the noxious weeds according to the specification in one or more lots as. they thought fit. The breaking-up ceremony of the local school took place last Friday af tefnoon. About one hundred parents And •friends were present. The chairman of the School Committee presented the prizes. The dux of the school, Miss Ida Taylor, was the. recipient of a handsome volume of Dickens' works, donated by Mr Thomson. Mr Calgher's special prize (Kingsley's works) Fell to Master Bowler. During the afternoon the chairman presented Miss Sinclair (who has left the teaching, staff to take up the nursing profession) with a silver watch and wrißtlet. At the conclusion of the ceremony the senior girls entertained the visitors at afternoon tea. The centre ©f attractiwJofaUy; during the past, few <iays (|^,lie^^%,the grand Catholic bazaar, which was formally opened last Wednesday by the Very Rev. Dean McKenna. The stalls were well arranged and in charge of capable hands, with the result that business was brisk right up till nearly 12 o'clock on Saturday night. Great ,credit is due to Mr Buckley for the excellent arrangements he had made for drawing the art union and' for the energy he displayed in, carrying out the duties of secretary. The results of the bazaar from a monetary standpoint are very gratifying to the promoters.
